Over two climbing seasons, photographer and mountaineer Scott Kranz set out to climb and document Washington state’s one hundred highest peaks. This collection of summits is known among climbers as the Bulger List, a legacy roster with roots in a small, informal crew of mountaineers who pushed deep into the Cascade Range in the 1970s. From glacier-covered volcanoes to remote spires deep in the North Cascades, the journey carried Kranz and thirty-eight climbing partners across the full breadth of Washington’s alpine terrain. Cascade High pairs professional photography with reflective essays rooted in the history and character of this landscape, tracing the lessons learned along the way: patience, humility, partnership, and the quiet transformation that comes from returning to the same mountains again and again. More than a record of summits, this book is a portrait of a landscape that has moved people for generations—and will continue to do so for generations to come.
