workshop plus-one POLICY

We love that our participants want to share their photography workshop experience with someone special. To keep things enjoyable for everyone, here are a few simple guidelines.

Welcome to Bring a Plus-One

You're welcome to have a companion join you for travel, lodging, and the social side of the workshop. Having someone along for the adventure can make the experience even more memorable.

About the Group House

We often stay together as a group in a shared Airbnb or VRBO. If you're staying there, your plus-one is of course welcome at the house -- for meals, downtime, and hanging out with the group. Participants staying at nearby lodging are equally welcome to bring their plus-one by the house for those same social moments.

The shared house is a communal space for everyone, regardless of where you're sleeping.

Respecting the Learning Environment

Our workshops are a meaningful investment for paying participants. To honor that, regardless of lodging arrangement, plus-ones are asked to:

  • Treat outings as reserved for registered participants. Our group outings – whether a hike, a nature walk, or a drive-up location – are part of the workshop and are structured around instruction. There is no clean separation between "the outing" and "the class," so these are reserved for registered participants.

  • Give the group space in public settings. Because our workshops often take place in public spaces like national parks, a plus-one may find themselves on the same trail as the group. In those moments, we ask that plus-ones give the group space whenever we stop to shoot, review work, or conduct any instruction – which happens frequently and often spontaneously.

  • Stay out of structured learning sessions. Plus-ones should not join critiques, instruction, or any other structured learning portions of the workshop.

What Plus-Ones Can Enjoy

  • Exploring the destination independently during workshop hours

  • Joining group meals and social gatherings at the house (unless noted otherwise)

  • Celebrating with participants at the end of each day

A Note on Fairness

These guidelines exist to protect the experience paying participants have signed up for. Instructors reserve the right to gently redirect plus-ones who unintentionally wander into learning sessions.

If your plus-one is interested in the full workshop experience, we'd love to have them register!
