CHAMONIX PHOTOGRAPHY retreat

September 11-17, 2027

Seven days. One iconic massif. A small group of photographers, fully immersed.

a creative adventure of a lifetime in the Alps

Join me and a small, curated group of photographers for seven days in the French and Italian Alps: a retreat built around daily instruction, incredible field outings, and real connection with people who love this as much as you do. We'll be based at a private chalet in the heart of the Chamonix Valley, using it as home base for sunrise and sunset shoots, world-class alpine trails, and a night above the clouds you won't forget.

This isn't a no-frills workshop. It's a fully immersive, week-long experience working closely together to rewire your creative approach, level up your in-field technique, and come home with a portfolio-worthy body of work, all amid some of the most dramatic mountain scenery on Earth.

Ready to join us? The next step is a short application. I'd love to hear from you.

Have a question first? Reach out before applying — happy to talk through dietary needs, room-sharing, accommodations, or anything else on your mind. Message Scott

  • Go behind the scenes — Get rare access to a commercial photoshoot with a professional mountain athlete, shooting alongside me as it happens.

  • Turn raw images into a body of work — A post-processing and editing workshop to help you shape your week's images into something cohesive and enduring.

INCLUDED: 1:1 hands-on GUIDANCE, both before and after the retreat

Each guest also gets real, individual time with me: private pre-retreat planning calls to align on your goals before you arrive, personalized support throughout the trip, and a post-retreat 1:1 image review or critique to help you carry the work forward.

When I'm not exploring my home mountain range in Washington State, no other range has inspired me more than the Alps. I first visited and studied in France in the 2000s, and experienced the Alps shortly after. For the past decade, I've kept returning to the Chamonix area, drawn back again and again by the scale and character of the Mont Blanc massif — learning where the light falls best, which trails reward an early start, and how the mountains shift with the seasons.

Now I want to share that place with you. This retreat is a chance to explore the world-class Alps together, dig into your creative potential, and spend a week telling visual stories in a landscape that has shaped artists and adventurers alike for generations.

Meet your HOSTS

Scott Kranz

Scott is a Minnesota-bred, Seattle-based photographer, filmmaker, and educator. When he moved from the Midwest to the Pacific Northwest in 2013, he couldn't have imagined how the mountains there would forever change his life. He just knew their natural beauty held an undeniable power, and that his life's work would soon become visual storytelling in the outdoor spaces we all love.

Since then, Scott has become an industry leader, partnering with the world's leading outdoor brands while shooting on all seven continents. His work has taken him deep into mountaineering, from technical alpine routes to high-altitude expeditions, always with a camera in hand. He's a NOLS-certified Wilderness First Responder, trained to keep groups safe in remote terrain, and brings that same attention to detail into how he plans and leads every experience, whether a single outing or a week-long expedition.

LinDSEY conroy

Lindsey joins the team as wellness host and assistant guide, bringing over a decade of retreat experience along for the ride. As the founder of AdZENtures, she's been designing and running experiential retreats around the world since 2016 — which is really just a polished way of saying she's a logistics junkie who handles the details so you can focus on the experience (and your camera).

She's a 500-hour certified yoga instructor, teaching since 2011, and a NOLS-certified Wilderness First Responder who loves the outdoors as much as she loves learning about new cultures and sharing unexpected discoveries with guests. She's also been working in food since 2002 — several certifications and 11 years of chef experience in retreat settings — so you're in good hands when it's time to eat, too. Avid traveler, people person, nature-lover, dog mom: she's here to make sure your retreat runs smoothly from sunrise to last light.

REviews of Scott’s photography experiences

ALEX M.

Scott provides his professional experience into a jam packed workshop to expand any sort of photography knowledge a person could have. Highly recommend any form of workshop he has to offer.

Alyssa P

I have done two private photography workshops with Scott and I will definitely be doing more! He is a caring and professional teacher with great attention to detail. He puts in the time before each workshop to speak with you and find out what your goals are so you get exactly what you need out of your time with him. During the workshop he is very easy to talk to and makes you feel comfortable so that you are not intimidated to ask any question. I came away from each workshop with invaluable tools to help me progress in my technique. I also came away from each workshop loving my photos, which for me is rare! He is able to help you with the technical aspect of photography if you are a beginner, or help you with composition, post processing, and even the business side. I highly recommend doing a workshop with Scott! He is a phenomenal teacher and a genuinely kind human being who will help you take your photography to the next level.

Tal V

The session was way above my expectations! Scott gave me great tools to work with (that I'll never get anywhere else), he was very practical, open and knew how to read me and my needs after a few minutes into the conversation.
Scott was also very motivating, he shared with me insights from his own photography world and was open to answer any question I've had regarding the business of photography.
I would highly recommend this workshop for anyone who's interested to get to know the business side of the photography world!

NATE B.

Scott is an extremely talented, knowledgeable and passionate photographer who advocates for the lands he cares so deeply about, as well as inspiring people to get out in them. He also helps other photographers; he helped me get serious about photography as a business by teaching me all the things I would've never known about licensing, business contracts, pitching to clients, etc. Highly recommended!

ANTHONY K.

Meeting Scott for a workshop was an incredible time and something I will always cherish. Scott went the distance to make our shoot happen early morning, planned many details to make “the shot” and the creative process so fun, and was really great to meet and just talk with. He taught me a lot about my camera and we had a really fun, dynamic sunrise snapping pics of many iconic mountains and features of Washington... my first time at Mt. Rainier too! I will never forget it. I’ve looked up to the man for quite some time and now I’m even more inspired by Scott. Oh and this whole thing was an amazing birthday gift by my girlfriend who knows me too well. Really, what a gift. Thanks so much Scott!

PAMELA T.

Scott Kranz is a fantastic outdoor photographer and very generous about helping others to improve their photography skills. He is an excellent presenter and received many kudos for his presentation to the Tacoma Garden Club, which includes a number of very capable photographers. His newsletter is excellent and always includes a useful photographic tip. Finally, he is a really nice guy. See for yourself.
